BASIC Disaster Life Support® (bDLS®)

CURRICULUM

 

Basic Disaster Life Support® (BDLS®) courses bring together people from multiple disciplines in order to create a common approach to and language of disaster response. The result is an all-hazards approach (recognition and management) to disaster response. 

  • The 8-hour course covers:

  • The DISASTER™ Paradigm

  • Natural and manmade disasters

  • Traumatic and explosive events

  • Nuclear and radiological weapon attacks

  • Biological events

  • Chemical events

  • Public health system

  • Psychosocial aspects of disasters

 

Completing the course and passing a competency exam leads to Certification in BDLS®. Maintaining the certification requires renewal training every three years.

The Basic Disaster Life Support® course is relevant to:

  • Physicians

  • Nurses

  • PAs

  • EMTs

  • Paramedics

  • Pharmacists

  • Allied health professionals

CONTINUING EDUCATION

The Basic Disaster Life Support®  Course has been approved for 7.5 AMA PRA Category 1 credits.

The American Medical Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
